The Battle Standard Bearer

Many armies include a Battle Standard Bearer -- a trusted character carrying the General's own heraldry, and a rallying point the whole army can draw strength from. It's presented as an option in the relevant Warhammer Armies book, always carried by a character, and unless stated otherwise can't be the same model as the General.

Unlike an ordinary standard, a lost battle standard is gone for good if its bearer is slain -- no other model can pick it up, even from the same unit. If a Battle Standard Bearer refuses a challenge, it's moved to the unit's rear and loses Hold Your Ground! until the end of the turn (though a magic standard it carries keeps working as normal -- its effects can't be switched off).

Combat Result Bonus

Like an ordinary standard, a battle standard in a friendly unit adds +1 to that unit's combat result.

Hold Your Ground!

Friendly models within 12" of the Battle Standard Bearer may re-roll failed Panic and Break tests, drawing courage from its steadying presence -- unless the Battle Standard Bearer is itself fleeing, in which case the effect doesn't apply. If the Battle Standard Bearer has a Line of Sight value of 5 or more, this range also extends by 6".
