Meeting Engagement

Two armies that stumble across each other sometimes deploy straight from column of march, fighting starting before the rest of either force has even arrived -- there's little time for careful planning in a battle like this.

The Armies

Each player chooses their force from a Warhammer Armies book, to an equal points value agreed beforehand.

The Battlefield

Set up terrain as described in the Fighting a Battle chapter.

Deployment

The table is divided corner to corner into two triangular halves. Roll off -- the winner picks which two opposite corners to use and which half each player deploys in. The winner then deploys their entire army first: roll a die for every separate unit (including each character and war machine) -- a roll of 1 holds that unit back as a Reserve (see Scenario Special Rules). Every unit that isn't held back is then deployed anywhere in its own half more than 6" from the centre line. Once the first player has finished, their opponent deploys the same way.

First Turn

After deployment, the player who set up second rolls a die -- on a 6, they choose who takes the first turn; on 1-5, the player who set up first chooses instead.

Game Length

The battle lasts six game turns, or until an agreed time limit is reached, whichever comes first.

Victory Conditions

Victory points determine the winner.

Scenario Special Rules

Reserves. Reserve units don't deploy at the start of the battle -- their controller can bring them on during any turn of their choosing, using the Reinforcements rules, entering anywhere along the long table edge of their own deployment zone.
