Incomplete Ranks

Gaps left by missing models in a rank don't stop the rest of the unit from fighting normally. If a unit is fighting to its flank, models in an incomplete rank simply move into contact with the enemy to fight. If it's fighting to its rear (or to both flanks at once), some enemy models might not end up in true base contact because of the gap in the incomplete rear rank -- in that specific case, treat those models as being in base contact anyway and let them fight across the gap, on the assumption that the chargers wouldn't really have stopped one step short of the enemy.

The models in the incomplete rank are moved to be in contact with their enemies.
Diagram with full lines showing models attacking normally and dotted lines showing supporting attacks, and a unit moving forward after casualties separate it from the enemy.
Full lines = attacks normally. Dotted lines = can make a supporting attack. If casualties inflicted on the red unit cause the unit to be separated, move the blue unit forward to maximise contact.
