Panic
The battlefield is a disconcerting place -- confusion, death, and horror on every side. Faced with allies and comrades cut down by the foe, warriors can lose their nerve and scatter rather than keep fighting. Panic, and resisting it, is governed by the rules below -- battles are sometimes won or lost by an army routing in fear, even one that was never actually beaten in combat. Troops near their friends' destruction or flight can lose heart in turn, sometimes carrying the whole army into a spiralling rout.
